I left BGS at 16 – the school probably gave up – then did National Service from 1955 to 1957, serving in Egypt and Cyprus.
I have done various things during my life, mostly self-employed. For nearly 30 years I was the Postmaster at Westward Ho! with my wife Denise running the retail side. I also worked for the North Devon Journal and Autotrader.
We married in 1960 and celebrated our Diamond Anniversary last year; she was the sister of Alan Pope, who went on to be Head Boy at the school but sadly he died of cancer aged only 49.
I have two daughters and four grandchildren; the grandchildren all graduated from University, despite me!
