Born Dec 1932 in Torrington.
Entered the school with a scholarship since it was a fee-paying school at the time. Left in 1950 with six credits and a pass in the Cambridge Univ. School Certificate. Became a Monitor in 1948 and both a Prefect and Captain of Grenville House in 1949.
I was accepted for agricultural college to study Estate Management but there were no vacancies at the time so I joined the National Provincial Bank, but in January 1951 I did National Service for the RAF. On returning to banking I worked in Torrington, Bideford and Northam before being transferred to London in 1956 and finally retired as a Manager in 1990.
My sporting hobbies were athletics and rugby, and was successful at school athletics where I represented the school in youth sports and ran for Bideford AAC and the RAF. I played rugby for the school at all levels and for the RAF at St Albans, before a short spell with Bideford Harlequins. In London I played for the bank then became a referee for junior sides before packing up at nearly 50 years old.
Retired from the bank at age 58, which was 30 years ago, now age 88 (in Jan 2021).
